Quotations are a great way to inspire and iWisdom allows you to keep a database of your favorite ones when you need a bit of guidance or inspiration.

iWisdom is a simple desktop application that allows you to build and manage a list of quotations or other brief insights. These can be categorized and sorted and also automatically scroll from one quote to the next on your desktop. You can also publish a collection of your favorite quotes and wisdom in HTML.

It has to be said that iWisdom isn't exactly the slickest looking application. It looks very dated although navigation is straightforward and it's easy to use. It doesn't help that it's based on Java (you'll need Java Runtime Environment (JRE) of 1.5 or higher to use it) but since it's not a bloated app, it works pretty quickly.

If you're short on inspiration by the way, the developer provides some handy links to get your juices flowing here.

iWisdom isn't a masterpiece but it is simple and effective at what it does.

Changes

  • Renamed the Accept Command to the Update Command. The Update command (with ctrl/cmd U as the shortcut key) is now the command to use to paste an entire item from the system clipboard into your current iWisdom collection. This freed up the P shortcut key for the new Publish function.
  • Added a new Publish command, using ctrl/cmd P as the shortcut key. This new system provides more flexibility than the old system used by iWisdom, allowing you to publish your collection as a Web site or E-book, and publish to any location you like (as opposed to generating Web pages automatically within the Wisdom collection folder itself).

iWisdom is a desktop program that will help you manage and maintain a list of quotations and insightful ideas. Besides allowing you to store and manage your quotes, the program offers a number of tools to help you publish them.

Key features:

  • A number of related fields, including title, category, author, source, year of initial publication, and rights
  • Storage of your wisdom in an open, non-proprietary XML format
  • Multiple sorting and selection fields
  • Multiple files with remembered viewing options for each
  • Multiple levels of categorization, with a tree view to let you see your items within categories
  • Automatic Web Publishing
  • Automatic XML publishing (to create RSS feeds, for example)
  • A Find function
  • A Category Mass Change function
